Home Tuition for Maths and Physics in Nottingham

I hold a masters degree (MASt, "Part III") in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a BSc (1st) in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Warwick.

I am particularly interested in taking on more A-level Mathematics or Further Mathematics students, but can offer tuition in mathematics and physics from GCSE to early undergraduate level, including equivalent qualifications. I can also tutor for university applications and entrance exams (STEP, MAT, PAT etc), please enquire for this.

I have extensive experience studying both maths and physics, from GCSEs to my masters, from trigonometry to differential geometry. I have maintained a consistently high standard throughout my studies, and find helping students reach similar levels to be immensely rewarding.

Tutoring Experience

I currently have 6 regular students and am looking to take on more.

During my masters at Cambridge I tutored first year mathematics undergraduates through my college's mathematics society, providing support with courses such as analysis, probability and differential equations.

Tutoring Approach

In each tutoring session I initially talk through some pre-prepared material on points of particular interest to the student or points of interest from the previous lesson. I then encourage the student to bring some problems they are currently working on, and we solve them together.

Each student is an individual and is at a unique point in their studies, and therefore needs an amount of support during the problem solving segment tailored to their specific position. Some students prefer to take notes while I provide solutions and teach the necessary theoretical background, while others prefer to tackle the problems themselves, asking for advice where necessary.

I believe in accommodating the learning style that the student naturally leans towards. However, I also believe that regular problem solving is an inescapable requirement of learning mathematics, and so I encourage independence wherever possible.

I strongly believe each student requires a tutoring approach tailored to the qualifications they are working towards and to their specific needs. For these reasons I offer a preliminary consultation free of charge to discuss what you are looking for in a tutor and how I might help.

If you decide that my tutoring style would be a good fit for you and you are looking for online tuition, we will have a weekly meeting on Zoom (or another platform of your choice). After each session I will send you the notes from the session as a PDF, to allow you to review what we have covered.
