I am a secondary school English teacher. Having always been very passionate about English I decided to study English with history at University of Limerick and graduated in June 2012. After my degree I decided I would like to begin teaching. I worked abroad in the UAE before coming to Scotland. I then achieved my PGDE in English at Aberdeen university which I graduated from in 2015 and have been teaching full time since then.

Tutoring Experience

I am a full time secondary school English teacher currently. I have had experience teaching in inner city schools and more rural schools. Throughout my teaching career I have been responsible for teaching National 5, Higher English and Advanced Higher giving me experience with the subject as well as the layout of the exams. I know the content covered for all exams and how to prepare pupils for sitting these exams.
I am an SQA marker and have marked each of the components of the Higher paper: folio; paper 1 and paper 2.

Tutoring Approach

Every student will need a different approach which is why it is essential to identify what every student wants to gain from tutoring. I have tutored pupils at both national 5 and higher levels previously building up a bank or resources and approaches to helping students. Most students are working towards exams so we will cover the course content and work with past papers to develop confidence, knowledge and understanding of the course and the exam layout.
