❖ Grade 9 Guarantee - First Two Sessions Free ❖

Hi, I'm Connor!

I have a PhD in Computational Material Science and work as a Computer Scientist/ Data Scientist at Virgin Money. I've worked as a Computer Science Tutor for 3 years, from GCSE to the University level.

  • I've designed my own processor from the Logic Gates up and built a MIPS processor on an FPGA.
  • I've designed and built State-of-the-art Machine Learning algorithms.
  • I'm in the top 5% worldwide on the Code Wars challenge website for C programming.
  • I've been a Python developer for 5 years and built two complete Python packages.
  • I can code in Javascript, Java, C++, C#, C, Python, Assembly, Verilog, R, React, Kotlin, and SQL.

I believe in constant learning and enthusiasm as a lifestyle. Self-learning is the most important skill I teach, and I aim to make my students so good at it that I become obsolete.

My motto is the following:

"Teach a person a subject, and they'll do well in an exam. Teach them to learn, and they'll do well in life."

You can read more about my guarantee in the Approach section.

Tutoring Experience

Overall

I have hundreds of hours of tutoring experience, including University Level Computer Science, Programming, GCSE and A Level Computer Science. I have helped students achieve Grade 9 at GCSE and 2:1 at the University level.

Favourite Experience

Helping a talented GCSE student who was being let down by their Computer Science teacher. They were achieving Grade 8s and 9s in everything but Computer Science. Within a few months, they were on a Grade 9, and we were working well beyond the syllabus. Writing software for analysing the stock market.

How I fell in love with tutoring

I helped my brother prepare for and pass his Second-year university Maths exams. The process took four intense weeks. I coached him on time management, resource preparation, learning methods, and anxiety/ stress management. He went from a certain failure to a 2:1 overall.

Tutoring Approach

Students at the GCSE level are being let down by their teachers. Talented students in every other subject shouldn't get bad grades in Computer Science.

My goal is to help talented students excel.

I teach one-to-one and take on no more than two students at a time.

My Lesson Style

My lessons are split into three parts:

  1. Core Syllabus Review - Ensuring the base knowledge required for the exam is solid.
  2. Key Topic Deep Dive - Building deeper knowledge with practical hands-on examples, and high-level questions.
  3. Personal Project - Applying knowledge to a real project that teaches life-long technical skills.

Homework and Support

I want my students to work on hard problems outside of tutoring. Knowing they can fall back on me for support. I do this by:

  1. Setting hard homework tasks to complete outside of lessons.
  2. Providing 16/7 support to complete them.

Grade 9 Guarantee

If a student meets these criteria, they qualify for the guarantee:

  1. Predicted grade 8+ in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
  2. Predicted grade 6+ in English.
  3. Completes all homework on time and to my satisfaction.
  4. Attends a minimum of one tutorial a week. (or an average of one where holidays are in the way).
  5. After the two free sessions, I'm happy they could achieve a Grade 9.

If these criteria are met, payment will be the advertised £125 an hour. If a Grade 9 isn't achieved, you'll get all your money back.

If these criteria aren't met, I offer a service for £100 an hour without guarantee.

First Two Sessions Free

Before any sessions, we will have an initial consultation. I use this to establish key issues and to build rapport between myself and the student.

After this consultation, the first two tutoring sessions are free. These de-risk the process of ensuring good tutor-student fit, and they allow me to establish whether the Grade 9 guarantee applies.
