PLEASE NOTE I have very limited availability at the moment with my only slot available at 8pm on a Wednesday evening. I naturally have a turnover of students at the end of the school year so please get back in touch around June/July if you're looking for a tutor in the new school year.

I'm a passionate maths tutor. I specialise in working with students to get them ready for GCSE's and children who struggle to find anything enjoyable about maths. I believe that most students with this struggle just haven't been taught in a way that works for them.

I'm a third year Mathematics BSc student, and a full-time professional musician. I'm a songwriter, a good communicator and I'm philosophically minded.

After studying maths at A-Level over 10 years ago, I took an academic break to focus on my music career but started and continue to tutor KS2-KS4 students. Maths and music are linked in more ways than we can imagine, and I'm especially capable of getting students to either reconnect with maths or learn to love it, as they do music.

Tutoring Experience

I have 6 years KS2-KS4 private teaching experience and enjoy working with both adults and children. I first realised I loved tutoring in sixth form, helping several of my fellow students through their A-Levels.

When I was young, I moved around a lot, going to schools in Thailand, Singapore and China. I experienced very different approaches to teaching maths, especially in China. This was really challenging and I was lucky that my Dad, who was an engineer and mathematician, spent a lot of time tutoring me, helping me tie in all these different approaches into one strong foundation.

When we moved back to England, I found I had a knack for quickly understanding the root of a student's struggle at a conceptual level, rather than at surface level. I continued tutoring adults and children alongside my music career before more recently formalising my education with a degree. When I finish my degree I will teach Maths in school.

In maths, there are a million different ways of saying the same thing, the trick is to find a way which not only makes sense to the student, but is appealing to them - this is what I do best!

Tutoring Approach

Many teachers fail to communicate to students just how exciting maths is. If your child struggles with a subject, especially maths, it's usually down to the teacher, not the child. The way I was taught maths at school in England was extremely boring. We engage with and excel at subjects when we enjoy them and see improvement, and we struggle with those that we feel we're not good at. A student who can learn to love maths will end up with a life-long love of the subject, a critical mind and a knack for problem solving, whatever their chosen career.

My first step with a new student is to figure out how they see the world. It's especially important for students who may not have responded well to other tutors to feel heard and that the learning is going to take place on their terms. We'll have a cup of tea and a chat and I will try to understand them as a person rather than simply what they struggle with.

As we go on I will help them build strong foundational skills that match how they see the world, which empower and give them confidence to progress their own learning. I invest a great deal in each student, taking a lot of time to understand their needs and working closely with parents to ensure that they feel encouraged, challenged and supported throughout their learning journey.

After years of touring, playing festivals and working with different musicians, I'm laid back, extremely easy to get along with and have an innate connection with young people.
