I believe that exam success requires 50% knowledge & 50% good exam technique. With this in mind, my GCSE & A Level teaching is mainly taught through analysing exam style questions as most students learn the knowledge at school.
Many students find the financial and maths part of Business very challenging and I can help to improve both their confidence and ability. I also focus on essay writing and how to focus on the demands of the question to attain maximum marks.
I qualified as Business & Economics teacher (14-19) in 2002. I studied a degree in Accounting & Finance and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989.
I have taught all ages of children and young people. I was a senior lecturer in Accounting & Finance at Middlesex University for 2.5 years.
I have been an Assistant Director of Sixth Form and an Assistant Headteacher in a Pupil Referral Unit - both rated Outstanding by Ofsted. I am equally experienced at working with high ability, SEN and vulnerable young people.
All sessions are bespoke, depending on the needs of the student. So the first session is free so that I can gauge the level and learning style of the student. I am particularly good at spotting learning difficulties and advising on how to access assessments and support.
I am experienced in helping students to make choices at transition times such as Year 9, 11, 12 & 13.
I taught in schools for over 8 years and achieved excellent results. I’ve also enjoyed roles based outside schools, working with vulnerable groups including young offenders, children in care and permanently excluded young people.
I’ve been tutoring since May 2017 and now it’s my main income.
I grew up in Liverpool and left in 1988; I’ve also lived in the US and Malaysia. I’m sociable with a good sense of humour so I can usually relate well to students and build rapport quickly.
I also tutor small groups for A Level Business/Economics (max 4 students - just add an extra £5 per each student).
My quoted fees are based on the student living locally or coming to me. If I travel to your home, there is an extra £5 per session if its over 8 miles, towards expenses and lost tuition time.
