I am a qualified teacher and have over ten years of tutoring experience. I have an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Cambridge, an MA in History of Art from Warwick University and completed my PGCE at UCL’s Institute of Education.

I offer English and History of Art tuition for students of all abilities at GCSE and A Level, as well as university entry and degree level. Prior to qualifying as a teacher, I worked in the fine art industry; within London’s leading museums and art galleries, liaising with contemporary artists and curators to manage exhibitions and public projects.

I have limited available for regular tuition before September 2024 but can offer ad-hoc online sessions before then.

Tutoring Experience

I work full time as an English Teacher at a school in North London, working with students across KS3-5. As a result, I have a detailed and professional understanding of the English and History of Art curriculums, assessment objectives and requirements for students to perform at their best in their final exams and coursework. My academic experience has given me a depth of subject knowledge that enables me to challenge the most able students to develop their thinking above and beyond the syllabus. However, I also understand the multiple barriers that some children and young people might have in their learning and have experience of adapting subject content to ensure it is accessible for all.

I first started tutoring in 2011 and have worked with a number of students to improve their grades in English Language and Literature at GCSE and A Level. I have also successfully prepared students for competitive Sixth Form and university entry, offering support and advice with UCAS applications and interviews.

I have particular knowledge and experience of preparing students for the specific demands of Oxbridge applications in humanities subjects and working to identify extracurricular texts and pursuits that might complement and enhance their academic profile. Within the art industry, I was involved in designing educational materials for school and university students and am passionate about improving the accessibility and understanding of contemporary art.

Tutoring Approach

My work as a tutor is student-led and tailored to the specific needs of each student and their parents. Before the first session, I find it important to establish those areas that require additional attention and identify what each student hopes to get out of tutoring; I will then design a lesson plan that is both focused and creative. I am confident in working with all examination boards and have experience of the Cambridge IGCSE and Pre-U, ensuring that my sessions will complement, rather than contradict, the syllabus as established by the student’s school.

Perhaps most importantly, I like to make sure my sessions are fun, enjoyable and will develop an enduring interest in the subject. I am an enthusiastic and friendly tutor and encourage my students to ask questions and consider the skills developed in English tuition in a broader academic and cultural context. The individual focus of private tuition can offer students a singularly positive experience of learning, achieved through bespoke lesson plans that play to each student’s strengths and build upon their existing interests and talents.

At degree level, I work with students to bridge the academic gap from school to university in English and History of Art. I support students in developing their own critical writing style as essays become longer and more complex, and offer advice and assistance in choosing courses and subjects that will complement their individual strengths and interests.
