I am graduate in Spanish and Italian from the University of Oxford. I have been teaching and giving private tuition in literature, languages and maths for 6 years. I also specialise in 11+ preparation (both exams and interviews) for Private schools. I teach both Spanish and Italian at all levels up to degree level, English Literature and History to A Level and English as a foreign language to students of all abilities. I am passionate about language learning, literature and History and enjoy working with students of all abilities, tailoring classes to their needs and interests and helping to build students' confidence in the chosen subject.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored students for Spanish helping with exam technique (GCSE, A Level, IB, MLAT...) and conversation classes. I have given both private one-on-one classes and worked in schools mentoring and teaching larger groups. I have prepared and coached a number of students through the Oxbridge admissions process giving support and advice on the personal statement, MLAT entrance exam practice and interview preparation. I have been teaching English as a foreign language for over 3 years working with both children and adults in language learning centres, primary and secondary schools. I have experience preparing younger students for the Trinity College London Graded Examinations in Spoken English with excellent results (100% pass rate and a majority being awarded with distinctions). I have also prepared students for the Cambridge exams (FCE, CAE and CPE) and the IELTS with very high pass rates. I have experience mentoring and tutoring students in GCSE and A Level English Literature, focusing predominantly on analysing texts, interpreting secondary reading and exam technique. I have prepared over a dozen children for 11+ exams and have a good understanding of what schools require and how to prepare children in Maths, English, Non-verbal and verbal reasoning and interview prep. I have prepared children for a range of schools from Harrow to St Paul's Girls with high success rates.

Tutoring Approach

In terms of language tuition I would conduct the lessons in Spanish or Italian to encourage students to improve confidence and communication skills in the chosen language. As a linguist I have excellent knowledge of second language acquisition and believe in encouraging students to practise the four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) in order to build on their ability in all areas. I use original material (newspaper articles, books, film clips...) to encourage students to engage with culture, politics and the current affairs of the country. After having studied a literature-heavy degree I believe that when teaching English Literature the focus should be on developing students' individual thoughts and ideas, analytical skills and interpretation of texts as well as focusing on developing strong exam technique. For History I focus on essay writing skills, analytical skills and exam technique. I am happy to meet students on a regular basis and give thorough, constructive feedback. I adapt my style to every student - I am warm and friendly and create a learning environment that helps to get the most out of every individual I work with.
