My main specialisation is to cater differently to every student's needs. I like to see children finding a voice for themselves, gaining confidence in skills that they have, or have developed during my time with them. Ultimately, I have found that close cooperation with parents and students yields better outcomes.
I specialise in preparing young children between 5-11 for school readiness: reading and writing; essay writing, comprehension and listening skills. I have taught 35 children for these purposes on a one-to-one basis over the last 15 years. I also work with children who need basic maths skills.
I am offer sessions for Year 4 children who are preparing for 11+, and consultation with parents how to create a roadmap for success.
I also work with teenagers struggling with English as their Second Language. I have 10 years of experience teaching hundreds of students in classroom environments. And another 15 years experience with one-to-one teaching.
I have worked with 6 adult learners preparing for their IELTS and ESOL, and edited 2 PHDs and dissertations.
I am passionate about finding the most effective way to teach in a digital environment for adults and young people.
I try to identify what motivates a child, and then create a bespoke programme catering to their interests, needs, and motivation.
For younger children, however, the preferred teaching mode is in person sessions.
My main approach is to assess and teach, breaking down learning into small chunks. An example of success - a GCSE student who failed twice for his English Language Paper, passed after 5 hours tutoring session.
Utilising insights from occupational therapy, speech therapy, vision therapy, and experience in handwriting remediation,
I help children with handwriting challenges.
For children with problems stringing their thoughts together, I provide a framework to help them organise their thoughts on paper.
For adults learning English, the one-to-one sessions help students progress at their own pace.
