I'm a highly qualified professional English teacher with an excellent track record of academic success.

English Literature and especially Shakespeare is my specialism. After achieving double A* in my GCSE Literature and Language, I went on to gain a very high A in my A-Level English Literature, then onto my undergraduate degree at The University of Birmingham. After gaining my BA, I gained a Masters in Shakespeare Studies and an MPhil research degree on music in the performance of Shakespeare, both from the prestigious Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon. I later went on to earn my PGCE in Secondary English and I have been teaching since 2017.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked only in high achieving schools - a grammar school, an outstanding state school and I now work in an academically selective private school. I have coached students of all secondary ages one-on-one with essay and exam technique, and assisted with revision approaches for those nearing GCSE and A-Level exams. I have taught a wide variety of texts from different eras and authors, and I work hard to ensure that students see that they are allowed to enjoy the texts as well!

I have experience of teaching the following specifications:

GCSE AQA English Literature and Language
A-Level Edexcel English Literature
IB Diploma English Language and Literature/IB DP Literature
IB Diploma Film Studies.

Additionally I have experience of supporting Sixth Form students with their UCAS statements as well as writing references for them.

Please note, I'm not an EAL/IELTS teacher and I'm unable to assist with these programmes of study.

Tutoring Approach

My creativity, articulacy, excellent and wide ranging subject knowledge, and good humour with all year groups and abilities have been highlighted consistently as great strengths by my colleagues. I love my subject and wish to share that joy with students.

I feel strongly that tutoring is something that should be done with a child, not to them, so I ask that any prospective student understands that tutoring is not just something that their parents insist on but a partnership, and that the best outcomes result from a student being honest about their strengths and weaknesses, and taking a proactive approach to the tutoring to ensure the best results for them.
