Tutoring Experience

I am a qualified teacher and have taught biology GCSE and A level at a local college for 22 years. For the last 8 years, I have also offered one to one tuition for GCSE and A level and have specialist knowledge of a range of exam boards including OCR, AQA and WJEC. I have also worked part time as a Biology subject specialist for one of the exam boards giving me an excellent understanding of the requirements of the demands of current A levels.

Tutoring Approach

One to one tuition can be a valuable addition to a students' in school/college education and maximise their chances of getting into university. By getting to know the student I aim to create a relaxed atmosphere in which the student feels confident to ask questions and improve their subject knowledge. I try to identify areas of weakness and use a variety of learning styles to improve these. As well as working to improve the students subject knowledge it is important to spend time working on exam technique and revision strategies. I use past papers and mark schemes to help students to improve on this. The new reformed A levels are proving to be very demanding for all students. I work with students to help them master questions based on practical work and maths, which now account for a higher percentage of marks.
I set homework which is carefully marked with constructive feedback given.
By working with students to improve their independent learning skills, improvements may be seen in other subjects as well as in biology.
