Started out with a Modern Foreign Languages degree in German and French and worked for many years in international sales and marketing, spending a lot of time abroad, so know a lot about the culture of many countries, including Germany and France, which enhances my teaching of these languages. Following having a family I moved into teaching, primarily through adult education but with some links into family learning/primary school children and support in secondary schools. Through my interest in languages and their structure and helping people learning foreign languages to understand their own language in order to comprehend how the 'building blocks' come together I moved into teaching English to adult learners who have not previously achieved qualifications for many reasons in their younger lives: eg disadvantage through personal situation or learning disabilities, physical and mental. This has been extremely rewarding in helping people to achieve to manage their lives better or enter/re-enter employment.
Twenty years teaching experience, mainly in adult education, but also supporting all ages, whether one-to-one or in groups.
Approachable and empathetic with each learner being treated as an individual in order to develop their potential to the full. Taking plenty of time with learners to determine their strengths and keep these on track, whilst seeking out the weaker areas to be developed. Able to find points of common interest, for example, in order to develop a good working relationship with every learner.
