I am an Oxford graduate in Classics, teaching Latin and ancient Greek. I have also taught antenatal classes with the NCT and have taught English as a foreign language. I really enjoy tutoring as this gives me an opportunity to get to know the student as an individual and to nurture them in a personalised way. It is great being able to share my passion and enthusiasm for ancient languages with others who feel the same way. I have 6 children of my own and have experience of teaching all age groups, including adults.
I have been a teacher in some capacity or another for most of my working life. I have taught GCSE and A level Latin at Pates Grammar School and Latin and Classical Civilization at the Kings School, Gloucester, covering Cicero, Virgil and Ovid amongst others. Poetry is my particular interest. My antenatal background has given me experience of teaching to different learning styles plus an insight into the different ways that men and women learn. As well as tutoring my current Latin and Greek students I have also briefly home schooled my daughter, including an introduction to both Latin and ancient Greek. I have been an examiner for GCSE Latin verse Literature and am currently helping prepare support material for the amended Latin and Classical Civilization syllabi for the OCR exam board website.
I firmly believe that anyone can learn and progress with the right amount of patience and encouragement. Each pupil should be allowed to progress at their own pace, and within reason have a say in the material they cover. I have a wide range of books and material and can cater to most needs, both for adult learners and children, absolute beginners and the more experienced linguist.
