I am an enthusiastic, ambitious teacher of A Level Sociology in a large, successful sixth form college.

I employ a student-centered approach towards teaching and learning and ensure all my lessons engage my students through the use of contemporary examples and applying learning to the demands of exam questions. This approach helps build the confidence of the learner and enable them to develop the higher-order thinking skills required for high grades.

I am married with two daughters and enjoy walking, swimming and playing football.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience of teaching A Level Government and Politics and A level Sociology. I have worked in the Sixth Form sector for 20 years and have extensive experience of helping students maximise their potential and achieve high grades. I am currently Head of A Level Sociology in a large, successful sixth form college in Hampshire. I have experience as an assistant examiner for A Level Sociology and so have an excellent understanding of what examiners are looking for in students'responses, essay planning and exam preparation techniques.

In my current role as Head of Sociology I plan and deliver additional support sessions for students in the run-up to their AS and A Level exams and so have experience of using techniques and strategies that have led to students achieving outstanding grades.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is to develop learning plans and schemes of work that suit the needs of the individual and help develop their subject knowledge, skills and confidence.

Through the use of prominent research studies and contemporary examples, I aim to help students' develop a critical understanding of the world around them, the key sociological perspectives and how to apply their learning to the demands of exam questions.
