I am a fun, outgoing Primary School teacher based in Barton Under Needwood. I have taught in and around the Midlands since 2006 from Solihull to Derby and have worked in a wide variety of schools from Special Needs, to small countryside schools to large three-form-entry inner city schools and have always enjoyed Private Tuition alongside my teaching.
I have a number of very satisfied clients (both from this website and by word-of-mouth referral), as you can see from my feedback. Many of them are happy to be contacted to provide personal recommendations by phone or email also.
I have taught and acted as a tutor for around seven years, the areas that I have been most successful in have been tutoring maths, literacy, reading skills, and also helping children "swot up" for their SATs and Common Entrance Exams. I currently have a 100% record for helping children gain entry to selective entry (Grammar and Private) schools.
I also offer English language lessons to both child and adult learners who wish to improve their speaking, reading or writing skills.
I believe fun and enjoyment are the best ways to learn anything, I have found that by making the lessons as interactive and interesting as possible, I get very good results.
All of the children I have worked with have made significant improvement in their academic work and also in their attitude to learning.
An example of this is where I was approached to tutor a Year 4 child who was significantly behind National Expectations in her reading and literacy. After just 5 months working together, she had made huge progress and is now working at a level two years ahead of expectations and has found a new enjoyment in her learning.
I enjoy working with adult learners too, be it to help with learning English as a foreign language, or to teach them some of the more modern ways of 'doing' maths, so they can give their own children help with their homework.

The lessons with Ben are structured in line with Harrison's current maths schedule that he is studying at school. In fact Ben has really gone over and above what we expected by liaising with Harrison's school to obtain his resent maths test, this has enabled Ben to highlight areas of concern with Harrison of which he is now addressing.
I would definitely recommend Ben to anyone considering having extra maths lessons, he is patient, pleasant, professional but very approachable.
I highly recommend Ben. He made lessons fun and his teaching techniques ensured my son looked forward to his tutor lessons and enjoyed learning. He thought that Ben was the best teacher that he had ever had.
I'm glad I made a good decision .
He focuses on the deficiencies in the student and encourages towards their progress.
My son has gained more confidence than before in his studies and I hope to see more .
Ben provides a very calm learning environment where my son doesn't worry about getting things wrong and asking questions to rectify his understanding. However, he does provide the drive to make the sessions challenging and push the limits.
I recommend Ben to all parents who's children need extra support, my son has really improved since working with him.
Week in, week out, we are seeing both our daughter's performance in school improve in both numeracy and literacy, and more importantly, her confidence growing.
We would highly recommend Ben to other parents.
He met ourselves and our son briefly, before starting lessons, and listened carefully to what we hoped to get from tutoring, which he summed up in an email to us shortly afterwards. He has been helpful and flexible, when setting up lessons. In addition, Ben has a good sense of humour and overall pleasant manner when teaching, which has helped put our son at ease…
Ben often liaises with the school on my behalf to ensure I am kept up to date with my son's progress, which is invaluable to any working mother.
I would not hesitate in recommending Ben to any parent.
My son was very reluctant when I suggested a private tutor. However, Ben took time to get to know him, his interests/hobbies, likes and dislikes and has used this information creatively in the sessions.
Ben uses a variety of methods including clear cue cards so that my son knows specifically what he needs to do/keeps him focussed. Ben discusses with me at the end of each session what they have done in the session and why. Ben also has a warm and friendly manner and it is evident that he is conscientious. As a result my son really enjoys Ben teaching him and this has a really clear effect on his learning in school.
I would not hesitate to recommend Ben.
