Private Maths and Physics Tuition in Cheam

I have been teaching Mathematics for 20 years and currently working as a head of ks5 Maths.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching maths for 20 years. Currently, I am working as the head of KS5 mathematics in an outstanding school. I also worked as an examiner with leading exam boards in the UK and internationally including Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), OCR and AQA. Working with exam boards has given me a thorough understanding of examination criteria overall.

Tutoring Approach

In my experience of teaching Mathematics, I have generally seen pupils dreading this subject. This subject is generally regarded as a subject involving dry concepts, arduous calculations and somewhat baseless assumptions. The reason for such a wrong perception of this subject lies typically in the way this subject is introduced to pupils by their teachers. Anything taught without an appropriate context is not taught at all. This rule explains why pupils tend to develop a dislike for this subject.

In the initial months of my career, I was lucky enough to realise the fact that this subject is generally taught with almost little or no link to the world around us, which was the actual cause of the situation mentioned above.

As they say, a problem identified is a problem half solved, I started to plan my lessons keeping as many daily life examples of the concepts under study as possible. This practice began to produce its desired results in no time. The very concepts that used to numb their brains in the past months started to leave them in a state of wonder and excitement.

Mathematics is spread all over the universe from the specific movements of the ecclesiastical bodies on their exact routes to the arrival of day and night, from climatic variations in the skies to the maintenance of finances on the earth, from the construction of the buildings to their demolition etc. All these things, mechanisms and phenomena involve mathematical concepts in one way or the other.

It’s just the responsibility of an effective teacher to make pupils explore and understand these links. My sole aim in life is to put my knowledge and skills as a Mathematics teacher to the mentioned use. I try my level best to generate pupils’ interest in this subject because without being motivated they can learn nothing.

My objective as a mathematics teacher is to make all my students change their perception of this subject from being a mind-numbing one to a mind-enriching one.
