Home Tuition for Physics and Chemistry in Nottingham

Available for 1-1 and group tutoring for academic year 2023/24, limited availability

Currently available for UCAT Tutoring.

I am a qualified and experienced teacher (of ten years!), passionate about all things science and education with particular passion in the subjects of medicine and ecology.

I've worked within many schools across the UK as a teacher, tutor and career-development coach (particularly for students aspiring to study medicine).

When I am not teaching, or studying, I enjoy developing my skills as a rock-climber in the Peak District.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring in:

  • Science at primary to undergraduate level
  • Maths at primary to GCSE level
  • Medical school admissions test preparation (UCAT and GAMSAT)

My experience in private tutoring includes both face-to-face and online tutoring, using a variety of e-learning tools to aid effective learning.

I run my own tutoring business and love to coach new tutors in supporting students to reach their study goals.

My tutoring experience includes providing support alongside school studies and effective, intense GCSE and A level exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach

In addition to covering curriculum content, my approach aims to develop your thinking skills, scientific reasoning skills, and study skills; helping you to become a more independent, responsible and confident learner. I do this through encouraging and supporting you in making links across the subject topics and identifying patterns in assessments. I also like to provide opportunities for us to apply key concepts of each lesson to different areas of life, to help appreciate the bigger picture, and to help you to better understand and remember key concepts.

My tutoring approach for intense exam preparation is highly focused on guiding students in applying their knowledge to specification specific exam questions and developing exam technique skills.

This involves a heavy emphasis on past paper/specimen paper mark schemes, to help students to learn and appreciate the need to refine their exam answers by using relevant key phrases. It also involves identifying patterns in question themes and question styles that tend to come up in exam papers. Alongside this I place heavy emphasis on the fundamental concepts across the sciences as these tend to be applicable to the majority of the questions that appear in the exams.

The tutoring requires out of session practice for consolidation and memorisation, but I provide memory aids where possible to help. I set relevant exam questions for homework each week.

I am dedicated in working with you throughout the course of your tutoring, and offer support between sessions; effective tutoring extends beyond the one hour contact time!
