I advise PhD and MSc candidates in most social sciences (economics, political science, sociology, psychology, public health, etc.). I can provide feedback on:
- Research proposals;
- PhD upgrade reports;
- Book chapters and journal papers;
- Dissertations;
- Viva presentations.
I offer support throughout the entire research cycle, from the literature review to the interpretation of results - both quantitative and qualitative. I also introduce students to 'open science' software and apps.
I am a social scientist with a special interest in social research methods (both quantitative and qualitative) and in the philosophy of science. I can guide you through the scientific process, from identifying and formulating a research question to presenting your final results. I am committed to the principles of 'open science'.
I have over 12 years of experience in applied social research and 7 years in academic research. I have published in peer-reviewed journals on the issue of bias and methodological preferences in social research.
My teaching experience includes: 220 hours of class teaching (mainly at undergraduate level); 40 hours of professional training for senior policy-makers; and 24 hours of lecturing (mainly at graduate level). I have had the privilege of teaching at the London School of Economics, Sciences Po, City University and Birkbeck College. Overall, I have taught to an estimated 350 students of different age groups, positions and backgrounds. My course portfolio spans the following subjects: research methods, statistics, and public management.
I am committed to and conversant with the UK Quality Code for Higher Education. I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (full certificate) from the LSE’s Teaching and Learning Centre and I am a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. My students have recognized this commitment to quality and continuing development. Indeed, in 2014, they nominated me for the LSE Student-led Teaching Excellence Awards.
My approach to tutoring:
- Student-centred (i.e. making the most of the information I have for each student);
- Evidence-based (i.e. informed by learning theory and by evaluation/feedback); and
- Constructively aligned (i.e. considering learning objectives when developing course content and assessment tasks).
These principles are congruent with those taught in the LSE’s Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) for which I have completed all six modules.
In the interests of fairness and transparency; I kindly ask tutees to:
- Pay tuition fees upfront (necessary to confirm any booking);
- Book time slots in advance (early birds catch the worm);
- Observe normal business hours - unless I agree otherwise;
- Refrain from texting me;
- Keep a record of the time I spend on each tuition, for example using phone call logs. I do the same.
