Aoife

Hi, I'm Aoife and I am a full-time Physics, Maths, Further Maths, and Chemistry tutor. I have been tutoring for 6 years privately and have 1 year of in class experience. My interest in tutoring began while I was completing my Bachelors, as Maths (or Theoretical Physics specifically) is often taught in a specific, lecture-style way that is often not suited to all students. I truly enjoy working with my students & adapting different topics to their learning styles.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring students for 6 years now, and have had approximately 70 students over the years. I primarily work with students from secondary schools (to A level) but I have had some primary school students in the past.

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies & worked as a teacher for KS3 in 2020-2021. Outside of teaching full KS3 classes in the school I led learning support sessions for students who needed some extra help - either due to significant knowledge gaps or additional needs that lead to some extra support being needed.

I have also worked with various outreach programmes as a facilitator, such as Quavers to Quadratics, which were run as a partnership between the National Concert Hall in Dublin & Trinity College Dublin. These involved planning of materials, workshops, & visiting classrooms in various schools.

Tutoring Approach

When it comes to Maths, any knowledge gap compounds over time & can lead to students feeling behind and lacking confidence in the subject. My approach is to encourage & support students by leading them through the course at a pace that suits them (and making sure that we tackle those problem topics in detail). I especially enjoy working with students who lack confidence and need the initial support to help them work towards their goals.

I also like to ensure that students understand the importance of consistent work rather than doing a high volume of work in a short space of time. I believe that there is often the issue that students don't know how or what to study. I work with my students to develop detailed study plans during the run up to exams & help them to begin feeling confident in making their own plans.

I also work with students on the Maths & Physics sections of university entrance exams, as well as the 11+.
