I would like to clear things up! When discussing what your son would like to achieve I asked him is target grade, he told me that he was targeted a grade 4, he wanted to achieve a grade 7. To which I asked what set is he in. He told me he moved up to higher in year 11 which has been three months. He said he moved school because the school he was in refused to move him to the higher set. During our session I did 2 assessments a base line assessment as well as a past exam paper. Your son told me that he found it difficult to which I said we will go over topics that he finds most challenging. Based on my professional judgment I told you that he had missed a lot of content from year 10 based on the higher criteria and that he would need a fair amount of support to be able to access the higher paper. I was able to assess based on the base line assessment and the past paper we did. I said it might be worth looking at doing a foundation paper. He said he really wanted to do the higher to which I said we will need a number of lessons to be able to ensure you can do this. I did not demotivate your son and I am sorry that you felt that way. When I finished the lesson I spoke to you privately and said it may be worth him perusing the foundation paper. I have been a teacher and a head of faculty of more that 10 years and this was my professional judgement, I did not say that he can't do it I said that he would need a lot of work as there are significant gaps in knowledge. I would not sit and lie to you about what your son was able to do. I know that the purpose of a tutor is to support and help your child . I have and have a very high success rate and I have support students who have gained a 4 in mocks to a 6. Had I have been given more time to show you how I could have supported your son, you would have seen the progress. I did not have low expectations of your son but the evidence I gained showed me that he might not be able to cope with the higher as he as missed a year of higher teaching. It is fine that you do not wish to continue and I wish your son all the best, My intentions are to be honest, professional and supportive to all students I teach.
