I am a qualified English teacher of many years who is currently working as a self-employed tutor. Whilst I enjoy working with all levels of students, my strength is in building student confidence in my subject. I have a great deal of experience working with those who are underconfident, less able students, and those with learning difficulties, including concentration issues. I am a committed and dependable professional who enjoys seeing student growth, both in ability and self-belief.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught English for the past twenty-nine years. I have worked in colleges with adults and with KS3 - 5 students in schools in the UK, Cyprus, and the Middle East. In my last four roles, I was Head of English and have experience of different examining boards including Cambridge, AQA, Pearson, and WJEC. I also have a TEFL qualification and have taught for IELTS exams as well as perparing ESL students for Citizenship. I currently tutor freelance 1-1 online with individual students and small groups.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that the relationship between student and tutor plays a huge role in the learning; it is a partnership and the student should choose whether they feel they can work with a particular tutor. All students are so individual that I like to spend the first meeting getting to know the student then I can tailor the learning specifically to their needs and learning style. I create a programme based on that to meet their needs, whether that is to pass an exam, improve general English levels, or show their competence in English for academic, work, or citizenship purposes.
