I am an award winning composer with years of experience in teaching music theory and violin.

I entered Ionian University in 2008 where I received a bachelor’s degree in Music, achieving honorary status with a major in composition. I studied at the University of York for two semesters as an exchange student via the Erasmus scheme where I took composition courses by Roger Marsh, Thomas Simaku and Ambrose Fields. I have obtained a post graduate degree in composition with distinction from the University of Edinburgh under the supervision of Peter Nelson. In 2017 I started my PhD in Music Composition at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on the music written by Eastern European composers during the second half of the 20th Century. I have participated in numerous workshops by renowned composers including Phil Cashian, Marco Stroppa, Keneth Hesketh, Sylvia Milstein and Theodore Antoniou as well as performance seminars held by Ergon Ensemble, Dissonart Ensemble and Paxos Ensemble.

As a composer I was awarded the first prize by the Greek Composers’ Union during the 2015 Young Composers’ Workshop for the piece ‘Carthagodelendaest’. My piece ‘Stygian Reflections’ has won the 2017 Edinburgh University String Orchestra Emre Araci award. I was awarded the first prize for my piece 'Mummers' Plays' at the 'New Sounds for Old Instruments' held by St. Cecilia's Museum of Historical Instruments. ‘Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra’ was part of the official Greek submission for the 2015 World Music Days festival. Music of mine has been performed by various ensembles both in the UK and in Greece including Red Note Ensemble, Chimera Ensemble, Portativ Ensemble and the Greek Ensemble of Contemporary Music as well as a wide number of solo musicians and duets. I composed the original score for the art-house short film ‘Mirracle’ directed by Stylianos Moraitides which premiered at the 2016 Balkans without Borders festival. My music can be described as a hybrid of different genres, drawing influences from both spectral, popular and folklore music texts, while, simultaneously, sharing referential points from works for other mediums including literature and visual arts.

As a violinist, I was a member of the Ionian University Orchestra and a founding member of the Portativ Ensemble for contemporary music. In 2016 I participated in the independent production ‘1Q84’ by Ov-Off Theatre Company in which I was a part of the on-stage live string trio. I am a regular member of the indie rock group Spook RedRum where I play the violin and keyboards, while I was also credited as the song arranger for the debut album titled ‘The Illusion of Time’ and released by Outlandish Records in 2017.

Tutoring Experience

I have more than 5 years of teaching experience in violin performance practice and in advanced music theory (harmony, counterpoint, composition, orcherstation), both in private tuition, as well as in group courses via University Tutoring Schemes.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring includes both practical and analytical work. I like adjusting the course structure in order to fit the client's preferences in terms of style and interests. I try and include as many as intelectually stimulating aspects of teaching during the lessons, including creative exercices, performance improvisation and analyses in order combine practical and theoritical creative practice.
