Personal Description:

I am an experienced tutor of many years, having been a full time private tutor since becoming a Doctor of Computational Chemistry/Physics. Over this period, I have taught thousands of hours of tutorials, and you will notice the difference in the quality and preparation of tutorials to those provided by cheaper part time tutors. I enjoy tutoring immensely, and provide effective, focused, high quality tutorials. As well as teaching students, I have set exam questions and marking schemes, and marked thousands of pieces of assessed coursework and exams. This allows me to know what examiners look for in answers, which helps with teaching students how to answer the 'essay' or 'sentence based' questions many students of Chemistry and Physics A-levels struggle with.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught thousands of hours of one to one, face to face tutorials, as this has been my full time occupation for a number of years. This makes me ideally suited for one to one tuition. In terms of my academic credentials I have a degree and masters in Physics from Cambridge University, and a second degree and masters (MChem) in Chemistry and a PhD from Newcastle University. I am also an associate member of the Institute of Physics. I cover A-levels for all exam boards, such as AQA, Edexcel and OCR.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, friendly, and have many techniques I have developed myself for helping students gain a real understanding of their subject. I also genuinely love what I do, and seeing students happy when they improve their marks, or finally understand something they never could before is something I never tire of. I adapt my exact style to the needs of each student. Some need help extra with a particular topic, some have poor exam technique or get extremely nervous (in which case one of the primary goals would be to increase their confidence). One thing I always do is make sure a student is understanding the topic by asking questions throughout the tutorial, and usually attempting at least one past paper exam question at the end of the session.
