Information About Andrew - Dorking tutor - (7 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Andrew:
I am Maths Teacher with over 14 years of experience currently teaching all secondary school ages including GCSE and A-level at a leading independent school in Greater London. I have also tutored for many years. I really enjoy helping students learn and see the rapid increase in progress and confidence that can be achieved from one-to-one tuition.
As a current teacher, crucially, I am familiar with all the changes to the syllabus for both GCSE and A-level and have the relevant materials to assist. The content has increased for both as has the type of questions. In order to prepare my students fully I ensure they have as much exposure to the problem solving style of questions in the new specification. It is hard for them to get enough of this in school time with the extra content they have to cover so this is where tutoring can be very beneficial.
Feedback / references from recent tutees :
"Thank you for supporting Alex over the last few months with his maths. He felt very confident with his recent statistics paper, which is encouraging. His confidence in maths has definitely grown over the last few months and he is busy revising for C3 and C4 with a positive approach."
Reference from previous A-level + GCSE tutee :"Andrew has been tutoring my son, Michael, for approximately 2 years . Andrew's input has been very helpful to Michael. Andrew is always pleasant and punctual.I would recommend Andrew as a maths tutor "
Michael went on to achieve an A at GCSE and I continued tutoring him for A-level.
Darcey wrote "Just wanted to send you a quick email to let you know that I achieved an A* in maths!!! Thank you so much for all your help over the past year I could not have done it without you. "
I have successfully tutored many pupils for Maths GCSE and A-level (Both pure and applied modules) as well as younger secondary aged pupils. I can provide help with exam preparations or more general support with secondary school maths. I have also helped prepare pupils for the maths part of 11+ exams. /entrance test for grammar or private schools. I use my knowledge of examination board mark schemes to ensure that students present their answers in such a way as to maximise their mark. I am currently teaching full time in a private school and have over 14 years of teaching and private tuition experience. I have an excellent track record of results including one of my Year 11 classes achieving a 90% A* rate at GCSE.
I can tutor in the pupil's house (depending on the location) or at my house at a mutually convenient time, ideally during weekdays after school or evening (also during school holidays if required). I am very punctual and reliable. I can provide materials such as past exam papers or text books if required. I have tutored many pupils to achieve great success in both GCSE and A-levels. This includes sample questions from the new syllabus for both GCSE and A-level. can also help with the maths part of common entrance exams and supply materials. My approach is to get the student to think things out for themselves and enable them to gain confidence as they realise that they can answer questions successfully . I encourage students to tell me if, after an explanation, they still are not sure, so that I can try to explain it in a different way.
I have taught all secondary school ages including A-level. At A level I have taught all the pure maths modules and have taught mechanics, decision maths and statistics. I have also many years experience in one to one tuition whilst teaching. I currently teach at top private school in Greater London.
I specialise in exam preparation for GCSE and A-level and am fully familiar with the types and style of questions, the exam board mark schemes, how to maximise effective revision and performance in the test.

I was recommended FirstTutors and settled on Andy after a few email exchanges. I’m so glad I did. Andy’s ability to adapt to an individual child’s abilities and needs is remarkable. In my daughter's case, who is 15, and approaching her GCSE’s she had lost confidence, was struggling with most (aspects/topics) of maths and was failing to grasp exam technique.
Andy very quickly built a working relationship with my daughter and developed an approach which suited my daughter's abilities. As a result her confidence has completely returned, her understanding of the Maths (aspects/topics) has been amazing to watch and incredibly Andy has taught her to enjoy the subject of Maths. I have every confidence my daughter will achieve very high exam results because of the tutoring she has received, for which I thank Andy entirely.
Finally, having been let down in the past I’d like to mention what a pleasure it is to work with a professional teacher who understands the importance of arrangements made and time keeping. If you’re looking to better every aspect of your child’s Maths skills and put a smile on their face at the same time I would recommend him.
