I have been a successful private tutor for the last two years, working with a growing number of students; with great success. I am also an examiner at A level for AQA, which gives me an excellent insight into how to teach to the exam. I have also examined at GCSE.
In recent years I have acquired extensive - and successful - experience in tutoring Government and Politics.
I am 53 years old.
I taught History for 18 years at a large Bristol secondary school, eight of them as Head of Department. I also trained History teachers in association with Bristol University
As stated previously, I have tutored extensively in recent years, last academic year working with a total of about 28 students.
Between 2010 and 2018 I have guided dozens of students through A level and GCSE often with great success, adding between 2 and 4 grades to performance. In the last 2 years, 20013 and 2014 three students have obtained A* and 10 an A. In 2015 8 students attained either A* or A and again all improved in performance.
In 2016-17 I guided students through A level History and Politics in a year from scratch and all obtained B grades.
5 other students supported by me achieved A grades.
In 2018, 12 students attained A or B grades
I am informal and relaxed, with a heavy emphasis on subject expertise and thorough preparation. I am also prepared to mark any work thoroughly as and when the student requires. My approach is geared entirely towards the needs of the individual student. I like to make students see the lighter side of their work sometimes!
I can also provide extensive, self penned, notes for most History subject areas.
Notes and marking involve no extra charge.
