Information About Andrew - Chiswick tutor - (8 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Andrew:
Based in West London, I have an MA in English from the University of Cambridge, St John's College. I am patient, fun, and empathetic and perhaps due to my youthful appearance, get on incredibly well with my students.
I am able to assist with UCAS Applications and Personal Statements, as well as Oxbridge and Russell Group exam and interview techniques for English and the Humanities. I can teach Entrance Exams, having attended Grammar School.
I will only take on a handful of students, in order to ensure that I can give each student the individual attention they need to excel.
GCSE Grades: 9 A* and 5 A
A Level: A*AAA
As well as teaching in an out-of-hours school and at King's College School Wimbledon, I have privately tutored students from the ages of 6 to 25 in English, Maths and Entrance Exams. I have taught both those who need help and those who want a challenge, but the aim is always a comfortable understanding of the subject to ensure success.
In 2017, my students achieved the following grade improvements:
Theo: from a B to an A in English A Level exams and coursework
Khushal: from Level 6 to a Level 9 in GCSE English
Joseph: from B to A* in IGCSE English
Niamh: from Level 6 to Level 9 in GCSE
Julian: secured a place in the British Section of the Lycee Francais
No student is the same! Everyone learns in different ways, with different interests and skills and different personalities. It is impossible for a teacher to provide individual attention to a class of 25+ students in just one hour at school. I believe it is important to get to know my students personally; that way I can teach my subjects in a way that makes sense to them, and the sessions are much more fun! One-to-one teaching can be intimidating, so I always start with a relaxed and friendly environment.
It's also important to begin with any problem areas and resolve them. Fixing the big problems first provides a sturdy foundation for further education, making it easier to understand and remember everything later on. This is often neglected in a school environment, and I believe it is the cause of low grades or even apathy in the crucial exam years.
I had a chronic fear of Maths as an adolescent, but thanks to patient one-to-one help, I excelled and achieved three A* grades in Maths, Additional Maths and Statistics. I know the power of a good tutor!
It's also useful for students to have a sounding board or fresh set of eyes for coursework, dissertations and revision notes; I have a keen eye and a sharp mind, creating discussing and provoking textual and theoretical exploration in sessions. I am meticulous when it comes to spelling and grammar, so a good proof-reader!

Andy is punctual and polite, and we're very happy we've found him!
I don't think I can write enough about Andrew as a tutor. He is very professional and driven by the students needs, with exceptional subject knowledge and a mesmerising effect on students. Both my sons are very happy to get tutored by him bearing in mind both their needs are diverse!
We are delighted that you have been able to engage Hans in studying English. It is something that we have been trying hard to get him to focus on and he has improved dramatically with your help. We look forward to further lessons with Hans as he moves through his A levels.
