My name is Andrew and I am in my late 30s. I am a qualified teacher who is currently the Head of English at a local grammar school. Since leading my English department, I have taken them to the top ten performing schools in Kent and in the top 4% in the country. I have always had a great passion for English and Literature. I am enthusiastic, approachable and have the experience to help young people; I am skilled at teaching at all levels and am able to create lessons that cater for the varying needs of all my pupils.

Tutoring Experience

I am a qualified English teacher with fourteen years experience. I have taught at Key Stage Three, Four and Five (11-18 years old) and achieve excellent results in conjunction with my pupils. I am skilled in raising achievement for young people who need additional help to catch up. I am also experienced in helping students aim for higher grade having helped over 50 pupils achieve a grade 9. Likewise, I have worked with many A* pupils at A-Level. I am particularly familiar with Edexcel and AQA exam boards but am also able to teach to OCR and EDUQAS. Over the pandemic period, I have developed outstanding on-line teaching skills which compliment my outstanding in-person teaching.

Tutoring Approach

In education, it is vital to listen to students and create a plan for their individual needs. My understanding and development of my personal pedagogy ensures that I teach content, knowledge and skills, underpinning this with strong assessment and developing independence through modelling what is expected. I am experienced, approachable and most importantly, I am able to adapt to the needs of any young person that needs assistance. I believe that for any educator to be successful they must be able to make their subject relevant, exciting and something to be enjoyed rather than feared. My philosophy is one of rigour and engagement.
