I was born and lived for 22 years in the very western part of the Russian Federation - a city of Kaliningrad. After completing a 5 year university course in English Language and Literature in 1996, I came to York University to do an MA in Linguistics and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). A year after I moved to Bradford for yet another PG course in Interpreting and Translating for International Business.
I also have a PGCE in Secondary Languages (Russian) and in 2018 I completed a course at Moscow State University in the Methods of Teaching Russian to Bilingual Children.
Currently I teach English to the Russian speakers in UK, as well as Russian as a foreign language to a wide number of tutees of various backgrounds: Polish, Norwegian, Brazilian, Finnish, Italian and English of course!
I prepare for GCSE and A-level exams, act as an examiner for the Speaking element, and assist with interpreting and translating.
I have been working in the higher education sector since 2003 as a project officer and events coordinator. However, I also worked across community and secondary level education since 2000 teaching both English and Russian as a foreign language: English to Asian ladies and asylum seekers from all over the world, and Russian to private school pupils, at the evening community programmes and to my private students of various backgrounds and walks of life.
I always customise the programme and resources to each individual learner. At an initial half price session we will establish your learning style, previous exposure to languages and your desired outcomes the tuition with me.
My availability varies, depending on a number of students and teaching commitments I get, therefore I encourage my new tutees to book and schedule a block of 10 lessons. This enables your learning process to be structured and continued, which is so crucial for any language learning.
I have some online teaching experience: mainly Skype, but also tutor agencies' educational platforms. I personally quite enjoy this set up as I get to know people from different parts of the country and it is particularly handy when this country is gridlocked due to snow! :-)
