I am a mature and qualified Secondary English teacher with 20 years experience. I am living in North Leeds having returned to the UK after 20 years of living overseas and teaching in well established international schools.

Tutoring Experience

I have a BA Hons and PGCE and spent the first 5 years of my career teaching in Secondary schools in Leeds and Middlesbrough. I then moved to Hong Kong where I taught IGCSE English Language and Literature and IB English (Literature, Language and Literature, SL and HL). For five years I was Head of English Department. I have also been a marker for GCSE English Literature, IGCSE English Literature and IB English Literature examinations for several years. This means I have the experience to tutor Key Stage 3 English, GCSE English Language and Literature and A level Literature.

Tutoring Approach

I am friendly and approachable as well as organised and systematic, finding out the personal needs of my students. My considerable knowledge of exam curricular means that I can refine the student's study skills and approach to exams as well as help them respond critically to texts. I believe in helping students to make their own judgements and responses, and giving them frameworks and strategies to achieve their best, as well as making learning fun.
