I am an honest, approachable and hard working Maths Teacher who is committed to achieving the best for my students. Over the years I have supported students to achieve excellent results and work hard to instil confidence in my students that they are capable to achieve.

I am an established and experienced Maths and Statistics Teacher and have been teaching in a top state school for the past 15 years in York, where I continue to teach. I greatly enjoy teaching and I am passionate about teaching Maths and believe that everyone with the right support can achieve excellent results and improve their mathematical skills and knowledge. My lessons are always observed to be either "effective" or "highly effective" in line with the current practice guidance.

I have excellent subject knowledge and am a competent mathematician achieving a 2:1 in my Masters of Science Mathematics with Statistics degree at Lancaster University.

I am DBS checked and have never committed any criminal offences.

Tutoring Experience

Fulford School, York - I have taught Maths here from September 2007 to the present day. I have extensive experience of teaching both Maths and Statistics. I teach Maths from year 7 to sixth form. I teach Key stage 3, GCSE, A-level including further Maths. Please note that if you are a current student at this school then I am unable to offer private tuition to you due to this being a conflict of interest although I am more than willing to help you if you come and see me in school.

I am an experienced PGCE mentor supporting PGCE students with their training.

I have and currently continue to support students who are preparing for STEP and MAT entrance exams.

I also have experience of tutoring privately over the years, and supporting all the students that I have tutored to vastly improve their results and understanding.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that confidence and competence go hand in hand and that through a relaxed approach to learning and building self confidence pupils are able to develop their competence in any area of Maths. I want students to see Maths as a web of inter-connected ideas and enjoy the subject as much as I do. My main priority is to help students do well in their exams, although I hope that I also help them to learn to enjoy the subject. I know pupils can struggle at times and I am very good at identifying their weaknesses and developing their skills through personalised learning.

I teach for understanding, as well as passing exams and achieving the best results, as I believe this sets students up better for the long term especially if they wish to pursue careers where an understanding of Maths is vital.

I aim for my sessions to be enjoyable, concise, clear and easy to understand, and supportive ensuring that I build my students confidence in their abilities.
