Government and Politics
Cambridge Educated tutor with 10 years experience.
My professional career has covered 13 years as a political advisor, parallel to several years in start-ups and finance, as well as work with the Church of England. More recently I lived in Iraq, working on a political contract there for several months of 2017.
This experience, combined with more recent intensive training in Method Acting has equipped me with a unique 'tool box' of methods and techniques to release students into their full potential, as well as a useful array of real world experience that allows me to help students understand the ultimate point and potential of academic study.
I am an active, engaging and enthusiastic teacher who seeks to create a love and enjoyment of the subjects alongside the hard-skills necessary for success, and focus especially on bringing a subject to life in a way that encourages the student to take ownership of his/her own development.
I have been tutoring students for 10 years now, from GCSE to Postgraduate level, with essays, exams, long essays and dissertations, and university applications. As such I can adapt the principles of my methodology to a wide array of subjects, topics and contexts to help you whoever you are in succeeding in your chosen field.
Further to this I have also been involved in the mentoring of young people for the same period of time, coaching and encouraging young people in order to help them progress. This experience influences my approach to tutoring considerably as it is my experience that a confident and happy student is a successful one.
Please read the feedback and reviews below to see the track record of success that my methods have achieved for students from a wide range of backgrounds. The process has been proven to work for students whose studies have lost direction as well as for those already succeeding and looking for that extra boost.
My approach is focussed on essay-writing techniques, content-coverage and revision strategies, and wider intellectual development.
The first priority is always to establish a clear diagnosis of a student's individual needs, and then to create a strategy for success with them so they have a strong sense of ownership of the process.
Rigour and hard work are a critical part of the process, but I also firmly believe in bringing a subject to life by teaching it through the world of the tutee so as to ensure its relevance. While firmly committed to achieving the curriculum's requirement, I am also a strong enthusiast for supplementing the learning process with non-curricular matierials such as private reading, films, excursions, and personal research. Helping the student find the joy in the subject and the process is the surest route to success, so it is central to my approach that learning should be relevant, fun, stimulating and productive.
Alongside my core subjects, I am available to assist with University applications, personal statements, UCAS selections and Oxbridge applications in particular.
Occasionally throughout the year, I run group workshops for my students to allow them to dive into debate and discussion together, stretch and challenge one another's ideas and push beyond the limits of A-Level boundaries to further their intellectual development.
In addition to academic tutoring, I am also available for mentoring or coaching sessions for students struggling in matters beyond mere technique. This can be done instead of academic work, or in addition to it, and the two often feed into one another - confidence, clarity and contentment are a vital part of academic success.

You talked me through how to structure an essay in a clear way that no other teacher has managed to do before.
You have helped clarify my thoughts on topics: my mind normally goes off on a tangent, but you help keep it on track to answer the essay question.
We did have a plan for the lesson which was to work through a paper together, looking at how much he'd been able to put into play the initial guidance I'd given him in our first lesson. I was pleased to see that elements of it had made an appearance, but as I said above, the next step to allow these lessons to be a bit more productive would need to see him completing an entire paper to give us enough to go over.
As for setting him papers, I have already given him instructions on those, but can clarify with him if he's at all unclear. Just ask him to drop me a text.
Overall, the thing I'd say is that these processes take time. The beginning is often a bit confused, and frustrating, as the student starts to comprehend what is actually required of them by the exam board, but continual practice at a decent rate will see that sense of what is required improve, and with it confidence tends to follow quite swiftly thereafter. My priority is to ensure that he is absolutely clear on what is required of him, and to support him in practicing that regularly. Its my experience that confidence, and success tend to follow thereafter in due course.
Looking forward to continuing working together
I was provided with excellent and concise feedback to improve my rhetoric, and he made my research and knowledge of my subjects to 'flow' better in essays so that I was able to get a strong first in the first essay that we worked together with. I hope to work on more essays on the future!
He connected well with my son and his needs to revise his personal statement. His practical knowledge of all aspects of writing, history, economics and more is of the highest level.
He is very good at what he does and I would definitely recommend!
Benji has been of indispensable help, giving me a great essay structure which not only maximises marks, but is also time efficient. I would definitely recommend Benji as a tutor, who has undoubtedly salvaged my academic prospects and, therefore, my future! Cheers Benji
Thank you for your feedback, I'm always grateful to hear people's thoughts, even in an instance such as this when it hasn't worked out the way you'd planned.
As inflexible as you might find it, I'm afraid that the only way your daughter is going to improve her essay writing technique is with regular practice and though I understand she has a busy schedule, I wouldn't be doing you any favours by being flexible with the truth and implying that she'd be able to make up such a large performance gap as her present grades reflect any other way.
Furthermore, if you're hoping to have a meeting with any professional for which you don't expect to pay the publically listed fee, then I suggest that you check your 'commonly held' expectations with them first, especially when the website provides a free messaging service to clarify necessary details prior to a first appointment.
You may also want to ensure fees are settled in a timely manner to avoid any future tutor having to chase you for payment, we may seem less 'financially motivated' then.
I do wish you and your daughter the best for her exams next year, and I'm happy to help in any way I can should it be needed
Sorry that it's taken so long to supply feedback.
I was very impressed with your approach to Alexandra and her difficulties with writing essays. I thought it particularly helpful of you to meet with her.
Your advice was pertinent and helpful and I know that Alexandra found your input constructive and helpful.
I hope you are well.
His teaching is lucid and I very much admire his enthusiasm for teaching.
I would not hesittate to recommend Benji to anybody who needs help with History.
Thank you very much Benji
Benji works fantastically with my daughter, and not only transformed a failing student but also to restore her confidence when it was at such a low ebb. His perception of what went wrong was uncanny and he went straight to work rectifying the problems. He has a knack of extracting the best out of her but does expect commitment students who want to succeed and fulfill their ambitions. I know proof of the pudding is still yet to come when she actually achieves her grades, but l truly cannot speak highly enough of Benji and wish to thank him for all his help so far. So if any concerned parents read this and get the opportunity and chance for Benji to tutor their son or daughter grab it with both hands you will not be disappointed.
Benji is very knowledgeable, confident and able to communicate clearly and effectively with teenagers. He was able to identify the weak areas and fill in the gaps very quickly. My son wouldn't have achieved A* in both subjects without Benji's help.
We came across Benji by chance and we all feel very lucky to have found him.
The sessions with Benji have been invaluable. He has an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and, as importantly, understands how to apply that knowledge to get a student ready to sit the exam. At the outset Benji took great care to identify areas where my son was weak, to ensure that he would be fully prepared by June. He did this by devising a timetable of learning and revision tailored to my son's needs.
Benji's enthusiasm for History has helped to bring the subject matter to life for my son.
Benji has been more than a tutor; he has been a mentor to my son whose own knowledge and interest in the subject has grown week by week.
I would not hesitate in recommending Benji to a student who needs support and guidance from an expert in his chosen field.
Benji is flexible on days/time when lessons can be held and will recommend the occassional longer lesson if it is required or closer to exams.
Most importantly my daughter believes that Benji is making a difference to her subject understanding and I cant ask for more than that.
