Benji

Benji

Cambridge Educated tutor with 15 years experience.

My professional career has covered 16 years as a political advisor - including time in Iraq, parallel to several years in start-ups and finance, as well as work with the Church of England.

This experience, combined with more recent intensive training in Method Acting has equipped me with a unique 'tool box' of methods and techniques to release students into their full potential, as well as a useful array of real world experience that allows me to help students understand the ultimate point and potential of academic study.

I am an active, engaging and enthusiastic teacher who seeks to create a love and enjoyment of the subjects alongside the hard-skills necessary for success, and focus especially on bringing a subject to life in a way that encourages the student to take ownership of his/her own development.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring students for 15 years now, from GCSE to Postgraduate level, with essays, exams, long essays and dissertations, and university applications. As such I can adapt the principles of my methodology to a wide array of subjects, topics and contexts to help you whoever you are in succeeding in your chosen field.

I also run a men's welfare and mentoring network, with 15 years experience in this field that influences my approach to tutoring considerably.

Please read the feedback and reviews below to see the track record of success that my methods have achieved for students from a wide range of backgrounds. The process has been proven to work for students whose studies have lost direction as well as for those already succeeding and looking for that extra boost.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is focussed on essay-writing techniques, content-coverage and revision strategies, and wider intellectual development.

The first priority is always to establish a clear diagnosis of a student's individual needs, and then to create a strategy for success with them so they have a strong sense of ownership of the process.

Rigour and hard work are a critical part of the process, but I also firmly believe in bringing a subject to life by teaching it through the world of the tutee so as to ensure its relevance. While firmly committed to achieving the curriculum's requirement, I am also a strong enthusiast for supplementing the learning process with non-curricular matierials such as private reading, films, excursions, and personal research. Helping the student find the joy in the subject and the process is the surest route to success, so it is central to my approach that learning should be relevant, fun, stimulating and productive.

Alongside my core subjects, I am available to assist with University applications, personal statements, UCAS selections and Oxbridge applications in particular.

Occasionally throughout the year, I run group workshops for my students to allow them to dive into debate and discussion together, stretch and challenge one another's ideas and push beyond the limits of A-Level boundaries to further their intellectual development.

In addition to academic tutoring, I am also available for mentoring or coaching sessions for students struggling in matters beyond mere technique. This can be done instead of academic work, or in addition to it, and the two often feed into one another - confidence, clarity and contentment are a vital part of academic success.

NOTE ON BOOKING AND PAYMENT POLICY (PLEASE READ):
- please note that a minimum of 24hrs notice is required for the cancellation or rescheduling of any session, if less than 24hrs notice is provided the session is chargeable as usual, as at this point it is not reasonably likely that the session can be given to another student. The same applies in reverse, that if I cancel with less than 24hrs notice, the rescheduled session is free of charge.
- typically payment is made in advance for the month ahead. If this isn't convenient it can be done session by session provided the fees land at the latest by 24hrs prior to the appointment.
