I have been studying since I was 20 (after having completed A Levels in Philosophy, Psychology and English Literature). I completed an Undergraduate degree in Philosophy & Creative Writing at London Metropolitan University, a Masters degree in Continental Philosophy at Warwick University, and a second Masters in Social & Political Thought at the University of Sussex. During that time, I also took classes in English Literature, Psychology, and History. I am currently studying for a PhD in Political Thought at the University of Sussex, though I have taken intermission in order to focus more on my teaching.
I have extensive private teaching experience at all levels of education (GCSE, A & A/S, Undergraduate, Masters). I have taught seminar groups at Sussex University and King's College London since 2013, in both philosophy and politics. I spent three years leading a private philosophy reading group. I have also assisted students who don't have English as their first language.
The most important thing, for me, is to help a student discover and fulfil their potential. Every student is looking to improve, and I think that it is necessary to find out what a particular student wants to achieve, but also to help them find out what they are capable of. I like to challenge my students, and to get them thinking about what they've been asked to study, rather than just committing it to memory (in fact, it's far more likely that they will remember what they're studying if they develop their own thoughts about it). I insist that students do the work for our sessions, and I also like to give them regular (short) assignments so that they can practice their essay-writing skills, and so that I can get a sense of how well they communicate their own ideas in different ways.
