This is how 2 referees rated Alan:
I am a qualified English Teacher, with full GTCS registration. I previously taught English at Alford Academy for my probation year and for twelve weeks at Westhill Academy. My BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature was gained from the Open University and my PGDE teaching qualification was gained at Aberdeen University.
I am currently teaching SFL at St. Andrew's School, Inverurie since January 2016. I am working with secondary children with profound autism and other additional support needs. I have extensive experience of people with Autism, Asperger's and dyslexia.
I am married with two school age children and am based in Alford.
I have taught a wide range of texts for National 5 and Higher. I have both teaching and tutoring experience covering Close Reading, Scottish Texts and Critical essay writing.
I believe in breaking down the question papers to allow candidates understand what is being asked of them, and how they can get maximum marks. With practice pupils can begin to recognise the question types and how to tackle them.
Before I became a teacher, I was involved in training staff with various pharmaceutical companies for sales roles across the UK.
I will aim to help you with an individually tailored approach to your needs. I believe that a 'one size fits all' approach does not work.
If you are wanting tutored for an upcoming exam, I will cover what the SQA are looking for, this will enable you to answer questions much more efficiently and gain maximum marks. I can also help with advice on how best to revise your texts.
I am happy to do home visits, by arrangement, in the Alford area. Alternatively, pupils can come to my house.
