Working with material from most examination boards : AQA, Edexcel, OCR, all publicly available resources for Entry Level Exams, Bond, CGP and various Internet based resources.
I would like my students to understand the logic behind mathematical applications and not just memorise the mechanics of solving exercises. I aim to make mathematics something interesting, intriguing, useful, challenging and fun. I aim to enable the students to develop a useful tool for them to use throughout their life. My lessons are planned and structured based on the key stage requirements. They usually start with discussing the homework from a previous session. This may be followed by an introduction of a new topic and new technique, I may use examples from life, hand sketches, multimedia, etc… I then present the student with typical exercises, some worked out already and explain the steps. Student then works alone on a few exercises. The lessons usually end with checking and discussing the student's work, obtaining feedback, a review a important items to remember, lessons learnt and assigning homework.
I keep a weekly progress sheet for each student to monitor progress and proficiency.
