Adam

I am Adam, an accounting and finance student at King’s College London who specialises in teaching mathematics and business studies. If I could describe myself in 3 words they would be confident, calm, and systematic. Consequently, this makes me a great tutor for students of any age, as I am able to get through to them in a unique way. Not only will I develop my students’ skillset in a certain subject, but in the process of doing so, I will identify any specific problems that are holding them back and work alongside them to overcome these problems. For example, this may include finding new ways to inspire their creativity and thought processes or building upon and improving their critical thinking. Throughout my education, I have lived in multiple countries and immersed myself in various cultures, providing me with the mindset and awareness to be able to help any student coming from any background. Lastly, I believe that with the correct guidance, every student can reach levels that they currently deem to be unattainable, thus suggesting that I will do everything in my power to ensure that my students not only achieve but surpass the goals they currently set for themselves.

Tutoring Experience

Before joining Bright Education, my academic teaching experience involved teaching family friends and my two younger sisters mathematics for the majority of the last decade. This would involve me going through their homework on a weekly basis and providing them with extra help before any assessment. To keep track of their progress, I wrote them a weekly checklist of topics and questions to cover, ensuring that they stayed on track. Nevertheless, I did not put any pressure on them in regards to time, and I was happy to slightly delay our progress in order to ensure that the content was being effectively retained. The reason for this is that I would greatly prefer my student to take a little bit longer to properly learn and understand a concept, rather than rushing through topics in a system where my student is not retaining the information proficiently. Aside from academics, I have also coached an under-16s football team, providing me with the necessary skills and patience to effectively get my point across to teenagers, on top of providing me with the experience to understand how to deal with any type of conflict.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is completely tailored to each individual student. In other words, I will adjust my teaching methods according to the type of person my student is, considering factors such as different personality traits, how they learn and how motivated they are. Regardless of the student, one thing that is always consistent in my tutoring approach is having a systematic plan. In order to form this plan, I will initially get to know my student and figure out both their short-term and long-term goals, thus giving me a better idea about what direction I want to go with the student. In doing so, I am then able to make the systematic plan personalised and tailored to my students and their parents’ goals. Furthermore, another element that is consistent in my tutoring approach is the application of positive reinforcement. In order for a student to learn to their full capacity, I believe that being comfortable with their tutor is essential. Therefore, when my students demonstrate improvement, I am always happy to provide various forms of positive reinforcement. Not only will this encourage my students and boost their confidence in the specific subject they are being taught, but it will also build a personal connection between myself and the student, hence increasing their trust in me and my teaching.
