Personal Description:

I was called to the Bar of England and Wales in October 2008, after completing postgraduate study in Law to LLM level that year, and having graduated with a 2.1 in Classics in 2005 from Durham. In 2009 I worked in a set of London Chambers as a legal research assistant to a QC and in summer 2010 I carried out Legal Aid work in East Africa. In 2012 and 2013 I was a Group Leader for Big Voice London, a youth project supported by the UK Supreme Court. I am currently on a Tutor Panel for the Tutors' Association investigating CPD for tutors.

I gained School Classics prizes annually and ventured to Summer Schools at Durham. In my last year of School in preparation for Classics at University I took Classical Greek AS level where I achieved first in Northern Ireland, with 100% in the language paper. At University, I was on the Student/Staff Classics Committee in my second year.

Tutoring Experience:

Awarded 'Tutor of the Year 2012 Runner-up' by **Contact Detail Removed**, a tuition service with over 5,000 tutors across the UK, I have tutored over two hundred students from a wide variety of backgrounds regularly over the past three years. All students I have tutored have achieved high grades. For instance, out of my six GCSE Latin students, five gained A* (one achieving 100% in both language papers, another 100% in one language paper) and the other attained an A.

I have experience of tutoring Independent and State School children, undergraduate and mature students, as well as pupils aiming for Common Entrance and Oxbridge, and scholarships. Most recently I have gained international tuition experience: in summer 2012 I taught two boys in Shanghai, China, one boy aiming for his Eton King's Scholarship, the other already at Eton ambitious for a career in law; following this, in Easter 2013 I tutored a boy successfully for his Eton King's Scholarship; in May 2013 I tutored Latin in Venice, in November 2013 in Vienna. In 2014 I tutored in Switzerland and 2015 in Jersey and Normandy for Further Common Entrance and scholarship tuition.

I have been tutoring Law at degree level in the core areas of law, preparing students for courses and examinations. I can also assist with GDL/CPE and BPTC/Bar School preparation and modules.

Tutoring Approach:

I see tuition to be not only a more advanced way of learning, but also as a means of being a mentor and example to inspire others to be the best at a subject, and for their career thoughts and/or ambitions. This leads to emulation, enjoyment and better performance.

For Classics, I find that it is always best to go back to the very basics of the language and build confidence so that any linguistic problems are deleted and not materialise in the future.

For Law and History, tuition comprises analysis of sources, case law and statute, problem and essay questions from the particular area required, and then pinpointing the areas of difficulty, the principles and the cases and the writing style that the examiner is looking for.

The charge of my tuition takes into account preparation and travel time, reasonable travel expenditure, as well as the lesson itself. I am happy to tutor for one or two hours at a time. So as not to compromise myself or other students, if a scheduled lesson is cancelled within 24 hours I charge the whole price of the tuition; outside of that period and if the lesson cannot be rescheduled I charge half the price.
