Adam

Online Maths and English Teacher

I am an experienced, qualified teacher with more than 6 years of experience in the classroom and more than 8 years of tutoring. I teach Maths, English and Spanish. I am a patient teacher and try to put children at ease immediately. I am also enthusiastic, friendly, and passionate about what I do. I teach all levels - from Year 3 to 9 - in maths and English. I also teach Spanish up to 'A' Level.

Tutoring Experience

I have been working in education for over 14 years now. I began working as a special educational needs teaching assistant and then became a full-time teacher soon after. During my time in school, I have taught children with a variety of different abilities and needs and over time I have seen them all not only improve and prosper in their key subjects academically, but also enjoy and have fun while they have been learning.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching philosophy includes: building confidence as quickly as possible; creating a good rapport with pupils; always encouraging; assessing students' needs; using a sound subject knowledge to communicate concepts effectively; and responding to feedback from students. Helping children to progress academically means a lot to me because I understand how frustrating it can be not to realise one's potential. So far, I like to think I have removed some key obstacles to learning and breathed fresh impetus into the subjects taught.

Lessons:
I believe it's really important to do an assessment first, then I can clearly identify any gaps in subject knowledge. Subsequent lessons will be a combination of assessment and teaching. I make sure I always revisit areas we have recently done to embed knowledge and build a stronger foundation for learning. I make sure that pupils have the confidence to advance in their subject as quickly as possible. Encouragement and support is vital, especially in the early stages when the students and I are getting to know one another.
