Personal Description:
My teaching career started in September of the year 2000, holding an IT teaching position at a private educational organisation.
Oriented on a teaching career I obtained the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in November 2002 from the Department of Education and Skills of the United Kingdom. In the same year I participated at a national teacher’s examination contest where I was examined in IT knowledge and teaching skills and succeeded. I have been a teacher in Greece since September of 2003.
I was appointed as a Secondary ICT teacher (ages 12 to 18) but I also hold 696 hours of experience in adult training (ages 18 to 85) in various Adult Education Centers and have taught in primary schools (ages 7 to 12). In addition I have experience in teaching Mathematics and English in the first years of primary and Greek to foreigners. During my almost 10 year career in teaching I never stopped attending seminars in order to improve my teaching skills. I believe that every school category has its challenges and I am very much interested in teaching techniques and child psychology. I always seek to enhance my personality and knowledge in all appropriate to my field, sections (learning and/or improving foreign languages, learning about teaching methods, first aid etc). I hold the Proficiency level in Communicative English (TIE), the Michigan Proficiency Certificate and a level B2 certificate of the Italian language.
I am sociable, trustworthy, polite and extremely organized
Training Experience:
Full time ICT Teacher of Secondary Education for 9 years. Additional 3-year ICT teaching in Primary Education
52 hours experience in teaching ICT in Professional Educational Institutes
696 hours of teaching ICT in adults, in Adult Education Centres
Training Approach:
My teaching methods vary depending on the age group I am dealing with and the level of familiarity. In general though, I believe in the principal of giving a lecture with the help of a projector and then practicing by solving exercises. This requires preparing notes when there is not a book or additional notes if there is one and a set of small exercises for each lecture that I photocopy and give to each student. In order for students to see the whole picture, bigger projects are also assigned in group teams in order for them to cooperate and exchange ideas. The understanding of each student’s special characteristics and needs is very important this is why I keep notes about everyone’s progress. I believe that students need encouragement. I evaluate them by considering each student’s learning ability, trying not to misjudge anyone. The evaluation of students is a rewarding procedure and a combination of participation, knowledge and exams. I believe in every student’s abilities and listen to their complaints in order for me to improve. I try to make sure the students aren’t afraid of me but also that they respect me. Students are also encouraged to act on their own, search and take responsibilities for their actions
