Personal Description:
As an employee of a variety of businesses and as a business owner I have been involved in meetings with, and presentations in front of, a large variety of clients from many cultural backgrounds. I have taught or spoken before audiences ranging in size from single individuals to over a hundred people, including heads of small-to-medium-sized enterprises. Teaching has required me to be flexible and understanding in caring for the special needs of disabled people, younger and older ones, and ethnic minorities.
Since 1993 I have been involved in a continuing professional development course in Advanced Public Speaking, with topics ranging from the basics of fluent, enthusiastic, and natural delivery to the use of questions and illustrations in reasoning with, and motivating, the audience.
Training Specialisms:
I have worked as an instructor or tutor at the following companies or institutions:
Staffordshire University
Matthew Boulton College
Computeach Ltd
Westhouse IT
Here's what some have said about me:
"Thanks again for the week - I found the revision and exercises were very good. I think you did a great job of helping us to pass the exam." - Charl le Roux.
"I found your tutorage inspiring and returned with a wealth of knowledge and renewed impetus." - Jon Greenwood.
"I wanted to thank you very much for an excellent course over the last four days, which was extremely professionally conducted, always interesting, and communicated with enthusiasm and good humour". - Robert Park
"Just a quick email to say that I've recently got a job as a junior Oracle DBA, just thought I'd say thanks as I wouldn't have got it without your help!" - Mike Dobing, Junior Oracle DBA.
"Thanks for the course - although it was tiring it was also enjoyable (I like your sense of humour). I thought the course was good with the alternating of the three different types of activity." - Debbie Goodkin.
Training Methods:
My philosophy is that anyone can learn if they have a willing spirit and a patient teacher.
To develop an appropriate training program I first determine the needs of the student and work out short and long term goals. I use a variety of training methods, including demonstration, practice, memorization, and assessment.
Other than in-person tutoring I also provide tutoring by email, phone, and where needed webcam or remote desktop viewing.
