Personal Description:

I am highly experienced in Change Management, leadership development, education management, coaching, behavioural training, business continuity management, evaluation and quality assurance. I possess a Doctorate in Organisational Resilience, strategic leadership, executive management and practical and theoretical contingency planning experience. I am also an internationally certified practitioner in the evaluation of business continuity management planning activities, teaching the subject at MSc level. I also utilise the integration of robust evaluation and assurance methods into training through the Causative and Normative evaluation methods.

On behalf of the UK Resilience Centre,I deliver the MSc module on Business Continuity to senior emergency services, MoD and Local Authority staff, enhancing their academic and practical knowledge on the development and management of Business Continuity frameworks within their organisations.

I have 22 years experience in management, the last 10 being in developing executive leadership and management in both the Ministry of Defence and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) organisations. Through the holistic evaluation of a customer's Business Continuity Management and Operations strategies I identified the critical gaps in the training of staff. I have delivered several cross-industry strategic change programmes within the UK rail industry, utilising several organisational change methodologies. I managed the design, development and delivery of the strategic incident and emergency management training for Executive Leaders and their teams to protect the operational systems and reduce the strategic liability and risk.

Through evaluation of business practices and a collaborative working approach with the Heads of the Fire Service, British Transport Police (BTP), the Emergency Planning College (EPC) and representatives from the Cabinet Office, I created a hierarchy of incident management courses, incorporating behavioural training and the Executive Leader framework. This enabled greater business resilience, training assurance and facilitated a collaborative working approach, assisting all parties to develop a far greater understanding of operating procedures, business contingency planning practices and limitations to capabilities, enhancing future joint planning and reaction to incidents.

I conducted multi-agency strategic conferences with strategic representatives of the National Fire Service, BTP, EPC and the Cabinet Office representatives to help develop a level of support for a customer's strategic training. This resulted in the evaluation of current practices leading to full support of the emergency services to their training events, building a greater level of understanding and collaborative working.

I managed the design, development and delivery of a blended programme of customer focussed training for agency staff and Customer Facing Staff, based on the incorporation of behaviours into the material, mapped against an evaluation model to capture the return on investment. This programme ensured the business met their operating licence requirements, avoiding a £20m fine.

Training Specialisms:

I am highly experienced in the development of executive strategy, concentrating on Business Resilience modelling, Change Management, Management Systems and the delivery of Executive Leadership. In the MoD I was the programme manager for the research, development, delivery and evaluation of Executive Command Team training within the military, in line with HM Treasury’s “Green Book”. Through utilisation of Normative and Causative evaluation I integrated identified Business Continuity lessons, generating a greater understanding of the requirement of command; co-ordination within a dynamic hostile environment; the management and welfare of personnel; and the need for information management, security and dissemination across the strategic and international environments.

I was a training department Business Continuity Manager directing the daily operational mechanics of an organisation of up to 300 personnel and managing the training budget of £16m; successfully introduced new evaluation and training assurance processes for the managing and administration of trainees and permanent staff; and responsible for the welfare and supervisory care of all department personnel. I also conducted two departmental relocations involving the Change Management, Risk Analysis, Contingency Planning and maintenance of training for 350 departmental staff.

I also have a strong grounding in Business Security Training, having been a Department Security Officer for the Training Regiment, responsible for the managing of the Garrison Security strategy, which involved the planning of a Royal Visit and the interaction between security individuals, members of the Royal Household protection team and support staff. I was also responsible for the contingency planning for large scale public events within the area, resulting in the development of a collaborative working agreement between military personnel, Home Office police force, local fire service and specialised police forces.

I have over 20 years experience in delivering presentations to senior executive members, international audiences and members of local and central government. I seek to deliver clear, concise and accurate information, assisting with the passage of knowledge through interactive workshop events.

Training Methods:

I seek to utilise numerous approaches to training, based on current research and my own experience. Initially I will seek to obtain as much information about the individual and the relevant task, previous endeavours into the area and what feedback was received. If possible I will seek to blend learning through the use of virtual reality, scenario based exercises and table top events. I will also look to facilitate group led discussions, seeking to pull the answers from the individual or group to ensure ownership remains with them. This increases the desire to learn, participate and become engaged with the event, as well as making the learning journey more rewarding. On completing the task I would assist in the development of a 2nd and 3rd level evaluation matrix to assist with individuals capturing the return on investment.
