As a chemistry graduate from the University of Durham with a PhD from the University of Nottingham, I am now a highly experienced and successful chemistry teacher and head of science in a top performing grammar school, with a track record of helping my students to achieve the highest grades. Over ten years working as an A-level chemistry examiner has given me detailed insight into the requirements of the exam boards and my background as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry and at the University of Vienna has given me an understanding of the skills and standards that universities and future employers require.
I offer the first session at half price in order that I can determine the specific needs of the student and to ensure that you are happy with the service that I can provide.
I have over twelve years experience of teaching chemistry to A-level and Higher Level IB in two local grammar schools. Many students I have taught have gone on to study medicine and dentistry as well as chemistry at the very best universities in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge.
I am supportive and friendly to my students as it is important that they are comfortable and relaxed when tackling complex work. However, I have high expectations as it important that they make the most of the opportunity to study with a tutor. I work with the student to identify their weaknesses and gaps in knowledge allows and use the tutorial sessions to cement understanding, unpick misconceptions and ultimately prepare for exams by studying exam technique and practising exam questions. I also help my students to develop their own revision resources tailored to their own needs to aid independent study between sessions.
