Home Tuition for English in Primrose Hill

Hello! My name is Zara, I'm 26 years old and currently training to be a solicitor in the City. I graduated from Cambridge University with a first class degree in English in 2022. I also completed a Master's in English (1830-1914) at Oxford University with Distinction in 2024.

I’m passionate about literature and sharing ideas through conversation, reading, writing, and teaching. While I specialize in Victorian poetry, my interests span diverse genres and periods from Middle English lyrics to post-modern drama.

Tutoring is a way to keep the subject fresh in my mind and to share some of the knowledge and techniques I have picked up in the course of my own studies with others.

Tutoring Experience

I regularly tutored younger cousins (aged between 7-17) and the children of family friends in preparation for scholarships and public examinations including GCSE and A-Level. Throughout my degree I helped coursemates with assignments and essays, proofreading and copy-editing.

I have also had experience of tutoring via this platform, in particular helping a tutee (aged 10) gain confidence reading and writing.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is led by the needs of the child. I am happy to cater for whatever they might need support in, whether that is exam technique, grammar, creative writing, constructing an essay, approaching an unseen poem or simply expanding their general knowledge of English language and literature.

From my own experience, learning happens best through doing. As such, I prefer lessons to be practical: the completion of exercises, tasks and questions will form the basis of my lessons. Familiarity and comfort with writing is something I believe to be fundamental to the study of English, so come armed with pen and paper!
