Mounir

Online Maths and Latin Teacher

I have just graduated from Christ Church, Oxford with a Congratulatory Double First Class degree in Classics, coming first in my year; I am set to commence the BPhil in Philosophy this October.

I am passionate about all areas of humanities and Classics allowed me to study history, literature and philosophy simultaneously alongside language.

Alongside my studies, I am involved in social work and also play lots of sport including Squash, Lacrosse and Real Tennis

Tutoring Experience

I've been working as a tutor now for 5 years, and have experience teaching children as young as 8 all the way up to A level and Pre-U preparation.

Over the past 5 years I have helped students with scholarship (Winchester and Eton) and Oxbridge (one Oxford, one Cambridge, both successful), admissions as well as to work towards the major public exams.

This past year, for instance, one of my students achieved a D2 in Latin and Greek Pre-U; another gained an 8 in GCSE Latin; my final student was successful in his Winchester Scholarship application.

Here are some of my reviews:

“Zac is an excellent Latin tutor. My son’s understanding, vocabulary, and confidence have improved greatly over the past lessons. My son would highly recommend Zac for tutoring Latin”
• “Zac took our son up to A grade in Latin for his common entrance exam to Winchester College with six months of (almost) weekly tutoring. It wouldn't have happened without you, Zac!”
• “A great, knowledgeable teacher with a great flair for teaching”
• “Amazing tutor”

Tutoring Approach

Thriving in the collaborative atmosphere of the Oxford tutorial system has made me passionate about sharing this kind of experience with my own students and nurturing their interest in a subject. I find that this kind of experience, rather than learning by rote can really further students passion for a subject.

More concretely, initially, I talk to students about what they want to achieve from our sessions. A frank conversation about where they are currently and where they would like to be is essential. After this we establish together a route by which we might achieve this depending on the areas of their subject they feel need work. Before each session, I ask students to think about the main aspects of what we are going to be studying and to note down where they think their weaknesses are. In the session themselves, we discuss that area and then back it up using examples. I ask students to complete more examples to consolidate their knowledge. I also attempt to continually reintegrate material that we have previously studied. Viewing subjects holistically is crucial for exams.
