This is how 3 referees rated Yohan:
Hi! I'm Yohan, and I've been a maths tutor since 2010. I tutor only maths, because I have a deep passion for the subject (seriously!), and I believe that this is fundamental to be an effective teacher.
I currently work as a contract Programme Manager in London, with over 13 years' of practical, international, real-world experience, having managed projects up to £180m in value. I'm getting back into maths tutoring after a hiatus in 2015, due to intensive work commitments.
I`m not a teacher, and I`m also not tutoring to pay the bills - I do this because I love it. I find enabling and empowering students to do well in maths hugely gratifying. I find that a great deal of my work as a tutor is concentrated around two areas - overcoming a student`s misconception/stigma that they are not a `maths person`, and ensuring that they have a solid understanding of the fundamental building-blocks of mathematics. Once we clear these hurdles I find that my students find maths questions much less daunting - and even sometimes come to enjoy it!
(For clarity - I am CRB/DBS-certified and am happy to share the certificate with you.)
Having always been strong in maths, I started tutoring my younger cousins whilst studying for my LSE degree in Economics - I'd achieved three A grades at A-Levels for Double Maths and Accounting. A work friend's husband later suggested that I try private tutoring, which he was doing, and since I started in 2010 the bug bit me and it's the single most rewarding thing I do with myself. As I tell my friends, if I could make a living from maths tutoring I'd do it full-time.
I take my responsibility as an educator immensely seriously, and I seek students and parents who are similarly committed. Success is nigh-on impossible without all three parties working together, in my experience.
My approach is to assess my students` maths skills and aptitude in the first lesson, after which I craft a Structured Learning Programme (SLP), based on the number of weeks remaining to the exam. I then run through this SLP with student and parent, to make sure that we all understand the contact time, homework time, and cost commitment required to get the student to their desired grade.
Once we all agree and sign up to the SLP, I commit to a 100% money-back guarantee that the student will achieve their desired grade. That's right - if you don't get the exam result we agreed in the SLP, I will refund everything you paid me, no questions asked.
If you like what you see, then do get in touch, I look forward to hearing from you! As a pre-requisite, please could I request that you have the exam board and exam paper name(s) of the student's exam(s) handy, so I can plan the initial assessment paper around this.
