Private Maths and Mandarin Tutor in Cranbrook

Having taught both Mathematics and Mandarin in the past 16 years, I would like to think that I possess vision and foresight as well as relevant experience and skills. I believe I have been exposed to different educational and learning styles as well as cultural differences. I am confident that my enthusiasm and dedication will enable me to make a positive impact to my potential students.

Tutoring Experience

Growing up and being educated in China, I gained my BA degree in Management at Gingling Lady’s College, Nanjing Normal University. In 2005, the LEA of Worcestershire County Council (WCC) set up an exchange project with the Yangzhou Education Bureau. As an undergraduate student, I served as an interpreter for the inspectors and head teachers from several primary and secondary schools from WCC.

Since gaining my PGCE at Bath Spa University in 2007, I have worked in various schools including both the state and independent sectors. I obtained my QTS in 2008 after completing one year of induction successfully. My personal background and over ten-year working experience in different and culturally diverse schools have strongly developed my interest in international education.

My current job has been an invaluable experience. In a culturally diverse and busy school, I have developed my skills in teaching, communicating, team-working and providing consistent support to students, parents and colleagues. From 2009 to 2017 I taught Mathematics and Mandarin full time; from 2017, I have started to teach Mandarin full time due to the demand of this subject, and taught private maths lessons. Both my mathematics and Mandarin students had excellent exam records in the past. I was personally responsible for setting up the Mandarin course and content in 2009 and since then, the subject has grown and developed steadily. I also developed a Chinese culture related enrichment course for KS3 pupils.

Teaching both Mathematics and Mandarin remain as my passion. I am truly proud of my students and I believe the set of excellent records were partly due to a strong teacher-student relationship, where my students were motivated to work hard during a stressful exam period and felt safe to share their worries and emotions. I hope there might be an opportunity for me to build this kind of relationship with potential tutees.
