I'm an intelligent, engaging and considerate private tutor and Cambridge grad based in London. As of 2024 I have tutored applicants to and students at Oxbridge, Harvard, LSE, King's, Yale, as well as secondary schools including, City Boys, Forest School, Francis Holland, Alleyn's, North Bridge House, Camden Girls among others. Teaching brings me such joy, and I love to help nurture consistent study habits, watching those many eureka moments that follow a student's growth into confidence.
My BA was in English literature and I have been tutoring for over five years, across all subjects from primary school to GCSE, humanities subjects at A Level and university level (including essay and presentation support for Master's degrees). I also have a DBS Check.
As a recent English graduate I have a deep and broad working knowledge of my field, as well as the benefits of being a younger tutor: I have experience with the very latest exam regulations and I am a closer age to my students (which I feel helps develop a good working relationship and rapport!).
I offer:
A student-centred, personalised course of study for personal growth; and a regular weekly timetable to foster a good routine.
Any questions or queries please get in touch.
Please also get in touch about Oxbridge application tuition, Entrance exam prep and Interview preparation.
I have experience tutoring students from top independent schools in Cambridge, London and Suffolk, and also supporting applications to Oxbridge and top international universities I adapt my teaching style to each of my students, cultivating the best means for them to grow and learn. I'm also very aware that not all students love schoolwork as much as I did, and can easily adapt to every level of effort!
I also have hundreds of hours experience over four years tutoring English one-to-one as a foreign language on online platforms.
I have been tutoring for over five years, with experience tutoring secondary (year 7 to year 11) and GCSE, and am happy to teach all ages from Primary, secondary, GCSE and A Level in English (Lit and Lang), Maths, History and Russian.
I achieved full UMS in A Level English Literature and 98% in my Cambridge Entrance exams (ELAT), and am very up to date with the modern exam systems.
I am also a published writer, a letterpress publisher and an award-winning filmmaker, all of which help me teach the craft!
My approach is to create a personalised course of study for each pupil, and commit to a series of lessons at a set time in the week to foster a productive routine. We organise causal tests to check progress, and our process is built around the key deadlines and personal goals of the pupil.
Entrance Exams
— With a mix of past paper practice and skills development, we create a bespoke course for young people applying for top schools
— My tutoring for 11+ entrance exams, includes in depth lessons covering the specific topics each school's application process contains. These usually are a mix of English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal and Interview
— Most of my students apply for three or more schools, so I have many spreadsheets to keep on top of each specification and key dates!
— I also have a bank of materials and past papers which we can fully explore
GCSE
— I find working with my students we can raise a predicted grade by a point, whilst also increase consistency in grades throughout Year 11
— We work together to comprehensively understand the course and the exam requirements
— I always work towards the marking criteria, in order to study with the end in mind, while allowing natural passion for the subject to flourish along the way
Secondary school students
— I have tutored students from top state and independent schools in London and Suffolk
— With my support, we tend to see grades rising from 5s and 6s in essay subjects to 7s, 8s and even a couple of 9s throughout a given term.
— I have also helped children of non-native speakers with self-expression and confidence in class, which has a dramatic impact on attainment and self-belief
— My lessons include classes, revision sessions, and help with essays and homework
Primary school
— I have supported pupils through the pandemic with all subjects
— In particular I have boosted their engagement with the work, with structured learning, rituals and routines
Speaking practice
— I have supported non-native English speakers, from school pupils through to adult learners to help with confidence and communicability
Special Educational Needs
— My experience with SEN includes dyslexia, from severe to mild, in its many forms and ADHD. If you are happy sharing, it is often very rewarding for me to see the assessment certificate from the expert who diagnosed the condition, as this will explain the areas of need, as these conditions are extremely diverse and complex!
