I am a qualified teacher of Mathematics with a BSc in Mathematics who has a passion for education. I am currently working with young learners aged 16 - 18 but have worked with adult learners also.
I believe in education for all and dedicate my time in helping people in any way I can.
I am in my 6th year of teaching and have taught in both the college and secondary school settings. I have experience in delivering KS3, GCSE and A level maths in both school and as a tutor.
I have also been working for tutoring centres and have 10 years tutoring experience. Having worked with students with a range of learning difficulties in both schools/colleges and tutoring centres, such as dyslexia and EAL I have developed my teaching to suit all needs.
A lot of people have this misconception that you are either naturally good at maths or you're not. You have to toil and toil and even then you might become average. This cannot be further from the truth!
Everyone has what is known as learning barriers, these can be previous negative experiences, a specific learning difficulty or even a person/s (such as distracting friend or even a teacher). Have you noticed that sometimes you just don't learn from one teacher, doesn't matter how good they are but you learn from another?
My job as an educator is to help my students find these learning barriers and work around them. I will work with the student in stages:
- Getting to know the student: It is important to know the strengths and weaknesses of the student as well as the challenges they have faced or are facing so you can plan to support them.
- Regular monitoring and feedback: setting appropriate homework and giving regular feedback is essential in not only developing the skills but also in building the student's confidence in the subject.
- Engaging lessons: I aim to set activities in a way that will arouse the student's curiosity and interest in the subject. Maths is an engaging subject which can be related to the real world and it is my aim for students to see this.
Please get in touch soon to book your places, it would be ideal if booked at least three months before any exams.
