I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2013 with a BSc Mathematics. I am the Senior Maths Tutor and Manager of the Maths Aid service at Newcastle University, a role I have held for 10 years, in addition to working as a private tutor. I love learning and and this is something I enjoy being able to pass onto other people through fun and engaging activities. I am highly adaptable and my lessons are planned to individual needs and abilities. I am a very approachable and easy to talk to teacher so students feel comfortable expressing any concerns or misunderstandings, allowing us to make the best possible progress.
In my role as Senior Maths Tutor at Newcastle University I see students with a range of problems, much of them involving A-Ievel material. The challenge is to make the subject accessible to students with different study styles and abilities and this has greatly helped my teaching style develop. I have also been tutoring independently for 11 years and I have had success with students across all age ranges, from primary up to A-Level.
Previous to this I worked as a Maths tutor for the University of Glasgow, helping to run classes for high school students from the local area. The classes focused on teaching areas of Maths that the students would not have previously seen, and my role was to explain the concepts and help out with exercises.
I'm a confident and friendly person and I'm good at making people feel at ease. I'm very patient and good at finding creative ways to explain new concepts. I think it is best to try and explain things as many ways as possible to ensure that the student fully understands. I use lots of different methods of teaching to keep lessons fun and upbeat and to help students learn in a way that suits them best.
