Maths and Physics Lessons in Guildford

I am currently in my final year of PhD in experimental quantum physics, at University of Surrey. My native language is Russian, and I am able to provide science and maths tutoring in both languages (English and Russian).

For A-Levels, I completed Mathematics (Further and Further Additional), Physics and Russian with A*- A grades. All GCSE grades A* - A. Throughout my PhD, I have been involved in running Summer Schools for 11-18 year old pupils, and was involved in tutoring, demonstrating and marking undergraduate physics modules.

In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym and reading classic literature.

Tutoring Experience

I have previously taught KS3 science to a student who was not fluent in English. Their first language was Russian, and therefore I was required to not only be able to explain the topics, but to correctly translate the material. The student did very well, in the end.

I provided face-to-face tutoring for A-Level Physics. This mainly consistet of going over mock exam questions, and working through the problems together. After a few sessions, the student became much more confident in solving the questions on their own, and did very well in their final exam.

For the past two years, excluding holidays, I have been providing weekly tutoring sessions for undergraduate physics students. These would vary, depending on the module I was teaching. The students would attempt to solve the questions, and request my assistance whenever they would get stuck. Additionally, I was involved in marking courseworks, lab diaries and mid-term exams.

Tutoring Approach

Every student requires a personally tailored approach when it comes to tutoring. After working with a large number of students at the university, I have learned to be extremely flexible when it comes to different requirements and needs for different students.

In general, I believe that in order for new material to be fully absorbed and understood, it is crucial to attempt to solve relevant questions at the end. Therefore, I would structure a basic tutoring session by going over the fundamentals of the topic in question (first 30min), and focus on problem solving over the next 30min.
