Tommy

Hi I'm Tommy and I teach Latin, Greek and Classical subjects up to and including A Level/IB, as well as Oxbridge/University Admissions advice for Classics and humanities subjects generally. I graduated with a 1st in Classics (1A) from Oxford, I scored a 7 in IB Higher Level Latin, A in A level Ancient Greek (self-taught in a year), as well as other top grades and I'm passionate about the Ancient World generally. I'm fun, enthusiastic and approachable, like to help turn weaknesses into strengths, and make sure students emerge more confident and assured after my lessons. For my day job I work in the tv industry as a Producer / Assistant Producer, so tutoring gives me a nice change of pace!

Tutoring Experience

I have 65+ hours teaching Latin at all levels, from beginner to Oxbridge entrance/A-level standard. I helped mentor a student applying to Oxford for Classics through the CAT as well as interviews, and I am pleased to say she won a place. I am also currently tutoring 2 students ab initio Latin with the aim of getting them to GCSE standard, and they are different ages so require different appraoches. I have also conducted a number of mock Oxbridge Classics interviews and I take pride in stretching students whilst also making them feel comfortable and au fait with the process. I also teach Ancient Greek, Classics more boradly, as well as offering Oxbridge/university admissions guidance and mentorship. My feedback thus far has been glowingly positive and I hope to continue in that fashion!

Tutoring Approach

I am relaxed, good-humoured and like to encourage independent learning and I try not to spoonfeed students. I would say I am just the right amount of old school when it comes to learning the fundamentals, and it is always my aim to build students up and make them feel more confident after my lessons than when they entered
